Whistlerites got a glimpse at the municipality's initial plans for new resident-restricted housing in Cheakamus Crossing at an open house Tuesday night, Oct. 1.
The forum, held at the Westin Resort and attended by over 100 people, updated the community on the progress the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) has made on the master-planning process for the municipally owned lands in the former Athlete's Village neighbourhood.
As part of Cheakamus Crossing Phase 2, the RMOW is focused on how best to develop 550 employee-restricted homes aimed at both permanent and temporary resident workers, "with a focus on creating homes that can be offered at below-market-rents, while also being financially feasible for the municipality," according to a RMOW release.
Matthew Carter of MGC Projects, which has been tapped by the RMOW to develop the business plan for Cheakamus Crossing's latest development, said the earliest move-in date is being targeted for the spring of 2021.
