Here's a quick look at what to expect at Tuesday's council meeting, kicking off at 5:30 p.m. at the Maury Young Arts Centre.
GOVERNANCE COMMITTEE APPOINTMENTS
At a special council meeting on Nov. 8, just two days after being sworn in, Whistler's new mayor and council moved to direct staff to strike a new governance committee with a mandate to carry out a public engagement review.
On Feb. 12 the committee will see its first appointments.
A Standing Committee of Council, the group will not include members-at-large (though there are plans for public engagement) and will build off of the Resort Municipality of Whistler's (RMOW) 2005 Council Governance Manual.
The terms of reference for the new governance committee state that its primary function is "to provide a focus on governance and ethics that will enhance the performance of Council while maintaining the highest of public trust and confidence."
Crompton will appoint three members of council to the committee on Feb. 12, as well as appoint a chair.
WORCA FEE FOR SERVICE
Council is also set to vote on authorizing a new Fee For Service (FFS) agreement with the Whistler Off Road Cycling Association (WORCA) at its Feb. 12 meeting.
If approved by council (and through the municipal budget process), WORCA will receive $53,060 in 2019 and $54,121 in 2020 from the municipality.
At the Jan. 8 Committee of the Whole meeting, WORCA president Dale Mikkelsen gave a presentation outlining the groups many services and asking for a $100,000-increase in base funding, which would bring WORCA's annual FFS total to $150,000.
In renewing previous FFS agreements with other organizations in February 2018 (Whistler Animals Galore, Arts Whistler, the Whistler Museum and Archives and the Whistler Chamber of Commerce), the RMOW kept all increases to 2 per cent annually to "manage expenditures and ever-increasing cost of services."
On that basis, staff are recommending that council also limit WORCA's increase to 2 per cent per year, limit the FFS agreement to two years, and revisit all the increased funding requests in the fall of 2020.
