The Whistler-Blackcomb Foundation has announced that grants to a total of $41,000 will be going to five Sea to Sky organizations.
The fall 2000 round of funding includes $15,000 to purchase a new security system for the Whistler secondary school library.
Book losses at the school are estimated to be about $2,000 per year.
Pemberton Search and Rescue will also be receiving $15,000 to help fund a new location for their headquarters and storage for their equipment in Pemberton.
Whistler’s SAFE clinic will receive $8,000 for the introduction of sexual awareness programs in Squamish Schools and to establish a satellite clinic in Pemberton.
The Francophone parent advisory council at Myrtle Philip will receive $2,000 to purchase new books for the French section of the Myrtle Philip school library, and Signal Hill elementary in Pemberton is being given $1,000 for their breakfast and lunch program for kids.
The foundation raised the funds through the successful Founder’s Pass Program and two key events: The Husky Oil Whistler Foundation Golf Classic and the Telus Mobility Whistler-Blackcomb Foundation Winter Classic.
Since 1993 the foundation has raised almost $2 million for registered non-profit programs, making it the largest fund-raising organization in the Sea to Sky corridor.
Programs considered for funding must be in the areas of health, human services, education, recreation, arts, culture or the environment.
The next funding application submission period runs from April 1 to May 1, 2001.
