Christmas music and religious celebrations abound throughout the resort this week.

First up, Whistler Children’s Chorus will be performing at the Chateau Whistler Resort on Dec. 22 and in the village the next day at 6 p.m. Following the village event, the kids will head indoors and perform at the Delta Whistler Resort.

Whistler Singers, Sea to Sky Singers and Colours on Key will be singing at the Westin Resort and Spa on Dec. 23 between 5 and 6 p.m., and again between 7:30 and 9 p.m. Carolling at the Westin will continue on Christmas eve from 3 to 4 p.m. and 7-8:30 p.m.

The annual Christmas Eve performance by the Whistler Children’s Chorus will be held in the Whistler Conference Centre Sea to Sky Ballroom at 6:30 p.m. Music teacher Alison Hunter says the event is not just for kids and attracts between 1,500 and 2,000 people each year. Most of the hour-long event will be carolling but readings will also be held.

The singing will continue well into the night, with the simultaneous outbreak of carols and religious services at 10:30 p.m. at the Westin Resort and at the conference centre. The Whistler United Church will be holding a midnight mass at the Westin and the Catholic Church will hold its midnight mass and carol service at the conference centre.

United Church minister Barbara Gilday says the event is usually held in the Creekside Chapel, but that building was taken down this year as part of the Creekside renovations. Next year the United Church plans to relocate its services to Millennium Place.

On Christmas morning the Catholic faith will be holding two masses, at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church.

The Jewish community invites everyone to join its Celebration of the Chanukah tradition of the lighting of the menorah on Dec. 25 at 4 p.m. The seven-branched candelabrum, or menorah, is one of the oldest symbols of the Jewish faith. The lighting the menorah celebrates the triumph of good and the extension of friendship and peace to the world. Following the lighting of the menorah ceremony in Village Square everyone is invited to the Crystal Lodge for traditional Chanukah foods and gifts for children.

Festive singing will pick up again on Dec. 27, with the Whistler Children’s Chorus once again performing, this time at Delta Village Suites between 4 and 6 p.m.
