Mountain film festival calling for photos

Organizers of next month’s Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival are looking for photo submissions, which could lead to a $500 cash prize.

Organizers of next month’s Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival are looking for photo submissions, which could lead to a $500 cash prize.

The Leica Mountain Photography Competition and Exhibition is open to amateurs and professional photographers. Slides or prints are acceptable but the deadline for entries is Jan. 15. Prizes will be awarded in four categories: Sport, Landscape, Flora and Fauna, and Culture. Best picture earns $500; other prizes include equipment from Leica, Lowepro and a heli-ski trip to Alaska from Points North Heli Adventures.

The Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival takes place Feb. 21-25 at Centennial Theatre in North Vancouver. Slides will be shown nightly during the festival, but an exhibition of prints will be in the lobby of the Centennial Theatre from Feb. 8 to March 15.

Submitted photos may also be used to promote the festival, published on a calendar and may be seen in other cities in a travelling exhibition.

Entry forms are available at www.vimff.org or at camera stores and outdoor equipment stores in the Lower Mainland.
