An avalanche in the Monashee Mountains near Revelstoke killed one skier and injured another during a heli-ski tour Sunday.
The deceased was identified as a British citizen, but no cause of death has been given. The injured skier was hospitalized with serious leg injuries. Two other skiers who were caught in the same slide were unharmed. Several agencies and groups are investigating the incident.
The skiers were heli-skiing with Canadian Mountain Holidays, which is partly owned by Intrawest.
The slide occurred exactly one week after a slide outside of Fernie claimed the lives of two Swedish sisters, who were part of a group of 13 skiers caught in the slide.
So far there have been 23 avalanche fatalities in North America, six of which have occurred in Canada.
The risk of human triggered avalanches in the Rockies and Columbia mountains is listed as "considerable". Locally the avalanche risk is considered moderate below the tree line.
