The Colorado competition has its sights trained on Whistler and it’s the base areas of the mountains that are of particular interest this time around.

Both Whistler and Park City, Utah are on the February travel agendas of the Snowmass town council and representatives from Aspen Skiing Co.’s planning and development arm.

According to an Aspen Times report, the group is slated to arrive in Whistler Tuesday, Feb. 6 for a packed agenda that includes a tour of the village core, some "apres research" at the Dubh Linn Gate, a meeting with Hugh Smyth, a tour of the Pan Pacific and Westin hotels, a visit to the Whistler Creek base area and a tour of the Meadow Park Sports Centre.

The group will conduct similar research in Utah on Feb. 8.

The reason for the trip is to scout out ideas for the base of the Snowmass Ski Area. Bill Kane, Skico vice president of planning and development, was reported to have told the town council that "it is crucial to understand what our competitors are doing and why visitors are going there instead of here."

Dave Bellak, the Skico’s in-house attorney, told the Times "The (Whistler) village vitality is unlike anything else we’ve seen."
