CRTC considering radio application

Visitors to Whistler may have another information service to chose from if an application to broadcast a new radio station gets the go ahead from the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission.

Visitors to Whistler may have another information service to chose from if an application to broadcast a new radio station gets the go ahead from the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission.

The CRTC says the husband and wife team of Russ and Cathe Wagg, from Campbell River on Vancouver Island, applied last October to set up a low power English FM radio station in the immediate Whistler area. Under the terms of the proposal, the station would operate on a 88.5MHz frequency and contain six minutes of paid advertising every hour. The station would feature background music but not full music tracks.

The authority says Russ Wagg has reportedly set up other information telecommunication services in Dawson Creek, Fort St John, Williams Lake, Fort Nelson, Courtenay and Campbell River.

The CRTC has been inviting submissions on the proposal through local advertisements in preparation for a public hearing at its headquarters in Quebec on Feb. 26.
