Vernon skier dies at Silver Star

A 66-year old Vernon man died in a skiing accident at Silver Star Resort on Monday, Feb. 5. According to regional news reports, Herb Erickson was wearing his helmet at the time. Coroner Ian McKichna said Erickson was an avid and expert skier.

A preliminary investigation indicates Erickson hit another skier, which knocked him off balance and sent him into a tree.

The injured skier was airlifted to Vernon Jubilee Hospital and then transferred to Kelowna General, where he died.

The other skier was not injured.

It was referred to as a fluke accident.

An autopsy was due to be performed Wednesday, Feb. 7.

The coroner’s office and local ski patrol are co-operating in an investigation into the incident.
