WHAT: KIDSfest

Some classic children’s tales come to life, slightly distorted, on the stage of Squamish’s Eagle Eye Theatre next week.
Pinocchio’s story takes a twist when he gains a sister in Pinocchio in Equal Opportunity Land. A talking cat devises a scheme to get rid of an evil ogre and win the kingdom in Puss-in-Boot. And in Sleeping Beauty Wakes Up a short king discovers his maiden is not exactly what he thought she was.
These and other plays are part of the second annual KIDSfest, a celebration of children’s theatre. More than 35 actors, adults and children, will be featured in the six short plays.
"You don't have to be a kid to come to the performances; adults will like the plays too because they are so much fun," says Adriane Polo the show's producer. "We have such a terrific cast with some awesome performances."
Other plays include Persephone, the story of the Greek Goddess of Spring who is tricked by Hades, ruler of the underworld; The Tiger and the Brahman, about a young boy conned by a talking tiger; and The Picnic, a story about a group of children who discover pollution and its impact on the environment.
Tim Shoults will be hosting the event and providing music in between plays.
Tickets for KIDSfest are $5 for students and seniors; $7 for adults. They are available at Mostly Books and Highlands Video in Squamish, and at the door.
