The RCMP have released a composite drawing of the snowboarder involved in a hit and run incident on Blackcomb on Jan. 14.
A Lower Mainland woman was seriously injured when a snowboarder landed on top of her approximately 200 metres up from the Solar Coaster chair. The victim and her husband had stopped in a blind spot beneath a roller when a pair of snowboarders hit it.
One snowboarder collided with the woman, resulting in broken ribs, a fractured pelvis and ankle, and three compressed vertebrae. The snowboarder appeared to have injured his left shoulder in the collision, but fled the scene with his companion while her husband shouted at them to stop.
The snowboarder involved in the collision was described as approximately five foot 10 inches tall, in his late teens or early 20s with dark hair and a thin build. He was wearing beige fatigue pants, a black or dark brown helmet, and a grey/silver jacket with blue patches. There is no description for his partner.
The woman was hospitalized for five nights before being released into home care.
The RCMP are working with ski patrol to identify the boarder, who could be charged with criminal negligence causing injury for fleeing the scene.
Police are asking anyone with information related to the incident or who knows the identity of the snowboarder to contact the Whistler RCMP detachment at 932-3044.
