The second annual Garfinkel’s Doublecross hits Blackcomb’s Nintendo 64 Terrain Park next week, with $5,000 in prizes up for grabs.

And contrary to public perception, you don’t have to be a pro rider to participate.

Garfinkel’s started the Doublecross last winter after the Garfinkel’s Gold Cup pro ski race became so competitive only the pros entered. The Doublecross – the first local event that included a skiercross and a boardercross – was designed to promote local fun.

The Doublecross is limited to 150 participants – 75 skiers and 75 boarders. Pre-registration can be done at Garfinkel’s or at Guest Relations. Competitors must be at least 19 years old and helmets are mandatory. Entry fee is $60 and includes a T-shirt and video sessions at Garfinkel’s.

All competitors will get two timed runs on Tuesday, March 13. A competitor’s best time will count for qualifying and placement in the Doublecross ladders.

The actual Doublecross will take place March 14, with snowboarders and skiers running separately in heats of four.
