Rugby training starts

Time to dig out the cleats, the jerseys, the fungicide and the first aid kit – the Whistler Hoarey Marmots Rugby Football Club is starting its spring pick-up season on May 3 at Whistler Secondary.

Time to dig out the cleats, the jerseys, the fungicide and the first aid kit – the Whistler Hoarey Marmots Rugby Football Club is starting its spring pick-up season on May 3 at Whistler Secondary.

Last season dozens of players came out to play a little pick-up, and the competitive side went undefeated in two seven’s tournaments against some of the best sides from the Lower Mainland.

All levels are invited, from beginner to advanced, and women are more than welcome to join in – possibly with the interest of entering a women’s team in the tournaments.

Whether you want to compete or have fun, the practices are generally non-contact run-arounds, and don’t get serious until a few weeks before a tournament.

Practices are every Tuesday and Thursday at 7 p.m. on the high school field, and go until it’s either too dark to see or the players get tired.
