Residents of the Howe Sound Basin are being invited to lend a hand Sunday, May 6 in a one-day creek habitat restoration project at 36-Mile Creek.
The waterway is a tributary of the Squamish River and the project is being spearheaded by the Steelhead Society of British Columbia’s Habitat Restoration Corporation.
The day will consist of planting work, eco-tours and a free lunch.
Steelhead Society biologists will conduct tours to illustrate how the indigenous varieties of plants that volunteers will be planting – from salmon berries to cedar trees – will all serve to regenerate and enrich the area.
This project has brought together a group of diverse partners including the Squamish Nation, Interfor, Squamish Stream Keepers Association and the Whistler Fly-Fishing Guides Association.
Anyone interested in pitching in should meet at the parking lot in front of Starbucks at 1200 Hunter Place in Squamish at 9 a.m. Sunday morning. Transportation to the site will be provided from here.
