Masters doubles tournament returns for sixth year

Wine may not have that much to do with the actual game of tennis unless your name is John McEnroe and you add an ‘h’ after the ‘w’.

Wine may not have that much to do with the actual game of tennis unless your name is John McEnroe and you add an ‘h’ after the ‘w’.

Nevertheless, for the sixth straight year, Select Wine Merchants of Vancouver is hosting the Craggy Range Winery Masters Double Tournament at the Whistler Racquet and Golf Resort, May 18 to 21.

The event is limited to players over the age of 35, and generally attracts the best doubles teams from around the province. More than 200 players showed up for the 2000 event, including at least 10 local teams. Peter Schelling, the tournament director, believes local participation could double this year.

Categories include Men’s and Ladies over 35, 45, 55, and 60, as well as combined age mixed doubles categories for over 75, 100 and 120.

The deadline for entries is May 14. For more information, contact the Whistler Racquet and Golf Resort at 932-1991.
