After three years with the Whistler Mountain Ski Club, Leslie Clarke has tendered her resignation as program director for personal reasons. No replacement has been named.
"As a coach and more recently as program director, Leslie has made a tremendous contribution leading a talented coaching staff with national team and World Cup level experience, and it was with regret that the board accepted her resignation on Saturday (July 7)," said ski club president Paul McCullough.
"Much has been achieved over the last year, which is a true credit to the efforts of Leslie and we will be sorry to see her go," he said. "We had more than 80 athletes registered in our programs last year and anticipate nearer to 115 to be enrolled in the coming season."
The WMSC’s summer programs will continue as scheduled, with WMSC board members working with Clarke to make it a smooth transition.
"The board has established a search committee to develop a plan to identify a new program director for the club," said alpine chair John Benbow.
The WMSC has been in existence for over three decades, developing ski racers from age 11 in all alpine disciplines. Five club athletes are currently training with the national team’s summer program, and many others are involved at the development level and with the provincial team.
WMSC members have experience bringing national and international events to Whistler, such as the Nor-Ams and the annual Whistler Cup for juvenile racers.
