The fifth annual Whistler Resort Volleyball Challenge on July 3 and 4 was mostly a locals affair, with a few teams travelling up from the Lower Mainland to take a shot at the prizes.

It was a six-on-six co-ed tournament, divided into ‘A’ and ‘B’ divisions, and 36 teams took part on the fields at Myrtle Philip.

At the end of the two-day tournament, the Crab Shack-sponsored "Joey and His Pussycats" won ‘A’ division and a houseboat trip for the team. Another local team, "Hard Hitting Ho’s," finished second to win a trip to the Tyax Mountain Lodge. In the consolation final, "The Nadinators" – last year’s champion team – beat "Willies’ Wonkas" out of Pemberton.

The ‘B’ division title and another houseboat trip went to the "Seven and a Half Two-Fours." "The Approachables" finished second for the trip to Tyax.

"This was by far the best tournament we’ve had," said organizer Joe Kovacs. "Everyone had fun, the games were intense, Wil Mimnaugh put on excellent concerts both nights, the weather was great – we couldn’t have asked for a better couple of days."

Proceeds from the tournament went to WAG.
