Winter may still be four months away but organizers of this year’s WinterStart festival are looking for restaurants to participate in the annual kick-off to ski season.
WinterStart gets underway Friday, Nov. 30 with A Taste of Whistler in the conference centre. This is an opportunity for restaurants to showcase their menus and to get into the spirit of WinterStart.
The festival continues Dec. 1, 2, 7, 8 and 9. World Cup snowboarding, ice carving, music and light displays are part of the festival. It winds up Dec. 9 with a Fire and Ice Chili Cook-off.

Money to be made
A new study suggests there will be a large increase in dining-out dollars spent in the next decade, but warns all types of restaurants will have to shift with the times to get a piece of the action.
The study, sponsored in part by Agriculture and Agri-food Canada and released by the Canadian Council of Grocery Distributors and the Food and Consumer Products Manufacturers of Canada, predicts foodservice sales will represent 45 per cent of food expenditures by 2010, and could mean an increase in revenue of $16 billion. An aging population, increased disposable income and time pressures, as well as the desire to have services tailored to consumers’ specific needs, are all expected to boost spending in restaurants and prepared food places. The study suggests if restaurants meet those demands financial benefits will follow.
CinCin hosting B.C. winemakers
CinCin Ristorante, one of Jack Evrensel’s stable of restaurants, which includes Araxi’s, is hosting a series of winemakers dinners this fall.
CinCin sommelier Robert Dziurman and chef Romy Prasad are teaming with B.C. wineries Summerhill, Cedar Creek, Inniskillin and Mission Hill for a series of dinners in September, October and November.
All dinners are $79 per person.
