Police are warning the public about a rash of car break-ins
The RCMP are investigating a number of car break-ins taking place in underground parking lots.
At least eight cars were broken into last week alone, with the thief or thieves taking smaller items like stereos, CDs, and sunglasses. In one case, a set of golf clubs were stolen, and in another, a Rocky Mountain Vertex mountain bike, worth approximately $5,000, was stolen.
A technique of punching out the locks has been used in the majority of the thefts, and police believe a team of suspects working together may be behind the rash of break-ins, says Const. Jeff Loeppky. In one case, they smashed a back window, and in another an unlocked door enabled the thief or thieves to take a video camera.
Four of the break-ins took place in The Lagoons parking garage, one took place in the Delta Whistler Suites, one took place in the Village North lot, and one took place at the Tyndalstone Lodge.
People are being asked not to leave their valuables in the car.
