Road work on Highway 99 between Vancouver and Whistler will be completed by the start of the ski season, according to the B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Highways.

"It will all be finished before December," said MoTH spokesperson Dan Mayberry.

Four major projects are currently slowing ? and stopping ? traffic on its way from the city to the resort.

Deck replacement on the Lions Gate Bridge has been finished but overnight closures for welding will remain in effect until November.

Work on the rock face above the Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal, which is part of the terminal expansion, will be finished before December.

According to Mayberry, the Squamish-Whistler exit route will not be affected.

The Sunset Highlands interchange, located on Highway 99 between Horseshoe Bay and Lions Bay, should be completed by the end of this week and traffic will be restored to the highway mainline, instead of being re-routed onto the off-ramps.

Mayberry said the developer of the Sunset Highlands residential subdivision, which is currently experiencing financial problems, will be billed $100,000 for the work.

"It's to provide better access for the residents," he told Pique Newsmagazine . "So the taxpayers won't be paying for it."

Mayberry also said the Cheakamus River bridge near the Daisy Lake Dam, which is being re-surfaced, will be open to two-way traffic on the Thanksgiving weekend.

The Mons bridge re-surfacing project, between Spruce Grove and Meadow Park, will be wrapped up this weekend as well.

According to Mayberry, traffic on Highway 99 has doubled in the last decade.

The Sea-to-Sky corridor's population ? and resulting traffic ? is supposed to triple within the next 25 years.
