The classic 1940s gypsy jazz sounds of Django Reinhardt and Stephan Grappelli come to the Brackendale Art Gallery next month through the hot new quartet Van Django.

The Vancouver Sun Community Concert Series and CBC Radio Two are presenting the Van Django concert at BAG, which will be recorded for West Coast Performance.

Van Django plays classic covers as well as original arrangements and compositions by band members. The band includes violinist Cam Wilson, who plays with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Mad Pudding and Joe Trio. Budge Schacte, of Tango Paradiso, is on guitar, as is Finn Manniche. David Brown playing bass.

The members of Van Django are among Vancouver’s most sought after and versatile musicians and as individuals have appeared with such diverse artists as Mel Torme, Nigel Kennedy, Bobby McFerrin, Tango Paridiso, Long John Baldry, Kenny Coleman, The Platters, Leon Bibb, Ashley MacIssac, The CBC Orchestra and The Vancouver Chamber Choir.

The all string swing band has continued to revive early jazz with appearances at the Cordova Street Café in Vancouver, and the Vancouver International Jazz Festival.

Tickets for the one night only music show are $10, available in advance at Brackendale Art Gallery (604-898-3333), Mostly Books in Squamish (604-892-3912) and at the door.
