Canada’s Jasey Jay Anderson, the reigning Snowboard World Cup champion, earned a bronze medal on Nov. 30 in the parallel slalom at Ischgl, Austria, a "snow date" event for a cancelled World Cup at Kaprun, Austria, the week before.
"I was getting over a cold so energy wasn’t at 100 per cent," says Anderson. "As the day went along you got more used to the ruts and they were getting cleaner and cleaner, and I also got myself together for the last two runs. I had a slow start this season since I wasn’t riding really well, and I almost got lucky with my results."
The night before, Anderson showed his versatility by finishing 22 nd in a World Cup big air competition, a crowd-friendly event that has been added to the World Cup circuit that typically doesn’t attract a lot of alpine snowboarders.
Anderson and the rest of the Canadian national snowboard team will be in Whistler this weekend to compete in the parallel giant slalom, halfpipe, big air and snowboard cross events that are part of the Nokia Snowboard FIS World Cup, from Dec. 6 to 11.
