Canadian men quick at Louise

On the opening day of the Hershey Alberta Cup and NorAm series, running from Dec. 3 to 11 at Lake Louise, the Canadian men came out on top against a field of North American and European skiers and swept the super-G.

Erik Guay, a 20 year old from Mont Tremblant, finished first, 0.24 seconds ahead of Banff skier Jan Hudec, and 0.36 seconds ahead of Rossland’s David Anderson.

Juergen Kandlbauer of Austria was 1/100 th of a second back of Anderson to take fourth, while Thomas Lanning of the U.S. was fifth.

The women’s race was not as successful for Canada, with Anne Marie Lefrancois the lone Canadian in the top five, in fifth place.

Julia Mancuso of the U.S. was first, followed by Warwara Zelenskaja of Russia, and Italians Patrizia Bassis and Elena Tagliabue.
