Mayor Hugh O’Reilly will be part of a local delegation going to the FIS conference in Prague, Czech Republic May 17-23. O’Reilly is going because Blackcomb will host the freestyle world championships in 2001 and the FIS want to meet representatives of the world championship host towns. As well, O’Reilly hinted that hosting the alpine skiing world championships might be a possibility in the next decade if a Whistler/Vancouver bid for the 2010 Olympics is successful. Bill McNeney from the W5 Foundation and John Johnson from the Blackcomb Freestyle World Cup Society will also be attending the FIS meeting. Councillor Nancy Wilhelm-Morden announced Monday she is resuming a full roll in council matters. Wilhelm-Morden announced in January she was going to have to limit her participation in council matters to regular council meetings following the death of her colleague Bob McIntosh. Wilhelm-Morden and McIntosh practised the same area of law for Race and Company. "At the time my choices were resign from council or reduce my participation for three months," Wilhelm-Morden said at Monday’s meeting. "I chose to reduce my participation, with the mayor’s assistance." Race and Company has hired another lawyer to share Wilhelm-Morden’s case load. Wilhelm-Morden was chair of the Transportation Advisory Group but gave that up in January. She will rejoin TAG as a committee member. She thanked council and staff for their support during the three month period.
