The Meadow Park Arena will receive $7,800 for the purchase of a wheelchair lift in the pool area thanks to the 1998 RMCC Ski Challenge on Blackcomb. Just before 85 corporate teams headed up the mountain Tuesday, Ron Marcoux, president and CEO of McDonald’s Western Canada, announced the grant from Ronald McDonald Children’s Charities of Canada. The ninth annual RMCC Ski Challenge on Blackcomb, hosted by Felix Belczyk, raised $75,000 for RMCC Canada. RMCC Canada provides support for community organizations and help improve the quality of life for children and families of children with life-threatening or chronic illness or special needs. Since 1986 the four RMCC Ski Challenges, held annually in Alberta, Ontario, Quebec and at Blackcomb, have raised more than $4 million. Fran Cuthbert was elected vice-chair of the Sea to Sky Community Health Council at the organization’s meeting last month. Cuthbert has been a resident of the Pemberton area for the past eight years and works in Whistler. She has more than 20 years of volunteer service on committees and boards at all levels. In addition to serving on the health council, Cuthbert is a member of the Whistler/Pemberton Healthy Communities Committee, a member of the Pemberton Secondary School Parent Advisory Committee and co-ordinator of the Howe Sound School District Parent Advisory Committee. The Whistler Children’s Choir will be singing at the closing ceremonies of the Air Canada Whistler Cup on Sunday, April 12 at 5 p.m. in the conference centre. Michael O’Connor, who does the horoscope for Pique, will be in Whistler May 5-10 to do private consultations. Call (250) 352-2936 to make an appointment.
