Charlie Locke’s Skiing Louise Group has added the Kimberley Ski Resort to its stable of B.C. and Alberta mountain resorts and will add a new lift and begin redevelopment of the area this summer. Kimberley is the latest addition to Locke’s group, which includes Lake Louise, Fortress Mountain, Nakiska and Wintergreen in Alberta, as well as Fernie Alpine in B.C. The Kimberley Ski Resort, which Locke purchased from the town of Kimberley, fits with the Skiing Louise Group’s other resorts, all of which are within a four hour drive of Calgary. Fernie and Kimberley, the two B.C. resorts, are the only ones which offer substantial real estate development, as the Alberta resorts are within national or provincial parks. Whistler’s Brent Harley and Associates Inc. developed the resort master plan for Kimberley’s redevelopment and will continue to work on detailed plans for the new Kimberley Village, related recreational facilities and residential development. In addition to a new lift and expansion of the ski area, a new hotel will be built this summer and a number of fairway houses will be built adjacent to the Trickle Creek Golf Course. The Skiing Louise Group will also be installing a new lift at Fernie and doing some real estate work at the Rocky Mountain resort this summer. Brent Harley and Associates is doing the village master plan for Fernie’s redevelopment and is also working on a new village master plan for Big White, a mountain master plan for Mount Arrowsmith on Vancouver Island, a mountain master plan for Mike Wiegele’s Saddle Mountain Resort at Blue River, a resort master plan for Canada Olympic Park in Calgary, and a village and mountain master plan for Red Mountain in Rossland.
