The Coast Garibaldi Community Health Services Society Board say their role in governing community health services will not change following an April 29 meeting with Ministry of Health officials.

The Coast Garibaldi Community Health Services Society Board say their role in governing community health services will not change following an April 29 meeting with Ministry of Health officials. The focus of discussion was a report prepared by the society board entitled Coast Garibaldi CHSS: Integration of services, which outlined measures to improve both efficiency and service delivery in the region. The report included a proposal to change the organizational structure of the society, which would allow the three CHCs to assume responsibility for some community health care delivery throughout the Coast Garibaldi region. However, following the meeting, the CHSS Board determined it can provide a more integrated approach to patient care within the current structure. The goal of the board is to ensure the best possible care for people of Coast Garibaldi. The board will continue to work in consultation with staff, CHCs, the communities and the public to meet the goal of improving service integration within the CHSS structure. Board chair Ele Clarke says the goals of the CHSS board include: o ensuring regional planning for CHSS services, including mental health, public health and continuing care o ensuring accountability for CHSS service co-ordination at the local level o re-directing any funds saved through more efficient delivery methods to enhance care options for the people of Coast Garibaldi Ministry staff support the board’s plan to maintain the governance structure and its goal of improving service delivery. The board will continue working to provide better health care in each of the communities served.
