Whistler resident arrested after weekend sexual assault A 32-year-old Whistler man faces charges of sexual assault after a Washington state resident filed a complaint with the RCMP. According to Const. Trish MacCormick, the woman met up with the alleged assailant at a local party in the early hours of July 26. The pair went to a friend's room at a local hotel and where the Washington resident was assaulted. MacCormick said the assailant has been released on a promise to appear at a first court date, set for Oct. 2. Swing accident proves dangerous Local fire, ambulance and RCMP staff were called to the shore of Alpha Lake on the evening of July 27 after a local woman sustained serious head injuries after falling from a rope swing. MacCormick that a call was made at about 11:30 p.m. after a 22-year-old female apparently mis-timed her swing from the rope and fell, hitting her head on some rocks and then falling in the water. Friends were luckily at the scene and were able to assist her until emergency crews responded. The young woman was conscious and able to speak but suffered head injuries and had to be transported to Vancouver General Hospital. Hotel guest suffers heart attack Whistler RCMP were called on the morning of July 22 after a 72-year-old visitor suffered a heart attack at her hotel and was transported to the Whistler Health Care Centre. The woman was pronounced dead on arrival at the clinic. Busy weekend for law enforcement MacCormick said the local RCMP were kept on the run with a variety of smaller incidents throughout the long, hot week, including a pair of break and enters on July 27. That evening, police received a report of an illegal entry at a shed behind a property at Summer Lane. A red Honda power washer machine was reported stolen. Police have a suspect in mind. Police are also on the look-out for someone who may be suffering the valley's worst ice cream headache on record, after $300 worth of frozen treats were stolen on the same evening. A lid on an ice cream display container located near La Rúa in the Upper Village was pried off and the treats were stolen. Police are asking for the public's assistance in tracing the ice cream thieves. Police also received a call on July 27 after a hiker spotted two snowmobiles in the woods near Logger's Lake. The snow machines were in good condition and when their registration numbers were checked, the snowmobiles were not listed as missing. Eight people were apparently partying just a little too hearty on the evening of July 25 and were nabbed by the police for being drunk in a public place and causing a disturbance in the village.
