Feature Volunteer: Alex Kleinman Q. What is the nature of your involvement with the Interfaith Chapel and Meeting Place? A. I am on the Building Committee and the Steering Committee. Q. What part of this project means the most to you? A. I am excited about the unique community nature of this building. It gets to the heart and soul of the Whistler community with its all-inclusive nature. Few people realize that the original Chapel group is the oldest inter-denominational group in North America, and that their original charter, written in the ’60s, was created sometime during a time zone of great racial and religious strife, the same time zone that saw Martin Luther King change the course of history. That group was more ahead of their time than they knew! I don't know, I just think this building touches a basic chord, it's what we want this community to say to the world. Q. How long have you been involved? A. Several years on and off. First on the periphery as part of the Consulting Group, then increasingly more actively involved until I was invited to sit on these committees. Alex Kleinman has been a resident of Whistler for 27 years. Both he and his wife Kris are very active within the community. He has been in the construction and wood working business for many years and enjoys downhill skiing, biking, swimming, mountain climbing, and coaching baseball.
