Let there be lights The association of Whistler Realtors are once again combining their charm and influence to sponsor the annual Festival of Lights. The event is scheduled to take place on Nov. 28 at the Chateau Whistler. The evening of dancing and dining with live and silent auctions is not only raising money for the village lights but also contributing to various causes around town. Last year the event raised approximately $90,000 and beneficiaries included the Interfaith Chapel, Search & Rescue, WORCA, The Mount Currie Band Council, The Jennifer Jones Bear Foundation, Wag and the SAFE Clinic. Applications for funding for community organizations in Whistler and Pemberton are available at all local real estate companies. Pemberton people awards Is there someone in Pemberton you think is just the business? Now may just be the time to pick up an application form from the Pemberton Trading Post and nominate them. The Pemberton & District Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations for the 1998 Business Person and Citizen of the Year. The criteria for the Business Person of the Year is that they are, "A business person or partners who operate a business within the area represented by the Pemberton & District Chamber of Commerce including the communities of Pemberton, Mount Currie, Birken and D’Arcy and who provide excellent customer service and promote the growth and development of the business community." For the Citizen of the Year award candidates must be, "A citizen or group of citizens who volunteer his/her time for the betterment of the community." Book fair a success Last week’s book fair at Myrtle Philip Community School was an overwhelming success. The school library was able to keep $2,206 worth of new books to put with its collection, including many Canadian titles, and also earned $1,985 which will be used to purchase other needed titles. Twenty-four parents volunteered their time to advertise, set up, sell books and clean up after the fair.
