Larry’s a lucky duck Larry Morse’s duck number 268 won him and a friend a week’s holiday to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. During the fund-raiser for Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Whistler and Pemberton last weekend, Larry’s duck streaked out 20 feet in front of the quack, uh pack, to cross the finish line first and set a new course record in the process. Duck number 1743 came second, winning Whistlerite Nicole Brown two free nights accommodation in town. Six other runners up also received prizes and gift certificates. Duck number 268 was unavailable for comment after the race but organizers report that the chill in the air helped keep the ducks primed during the turbulent and challenging course down Fitzsimmons Creek. The total amount raised is unconfirmed as yet but the ball park figure is $10,000 gross. Greg Newton, co-director of fund-raising for BBBS says that he is very pleased with the turn out on Thanksgiving Day and the strong community support. "Not only did children have a great time watching the ducks race down the river, parents, volunteers and other spectators were enthused about the entire event as well. I would like to extend a great big thank you to all the volunteers and sponsors who made this activity so successful."
