The Whistler RCMP are warning drivers that traffic enforcement will be stepped up now that the local detachment has a full-time traffic officer. Const. Lee Hamilton, who has been working the traffic beat part time, is now watching automobiles full-time. "There’s going to be a lot more tickets issued," Const. Mike Shannon said. "We’re asking everyone to slow down." There has been growing concern locally about drivers speeding through subdivisions. Last week Whistler council asked staff to look at reducing speed limits in subdivisions from 50 km/h to 30 km/h. RCMP across the province have been vigilant with CounterAttack road checks in recent months, and the Whistler detachment has been no exception. A number of impaired drivers have been stopped, as well as drivers with no insurance on their vehicles. Drivers are also advised to make sure their vehicle is prepared for the winter. Winter tires, windshield washer fluid that won’t freeze and first aid kits are some of the preparations that should be made for winter.
