Intrawest wins human resources award The B.C. Human Resources Management Association (HRMA) has presented its 1998 Distinction Award to Intrawest Corporation vice-president Diane Rabbani. The category was "human resources and labour/industrial relations professionals in organisations with more than 100 employees." At a gala dinner on Oct. 8 the HRMA selection committee presented the award. They are reported to have been impressed with Rabbani’s leadership and innovation in "defining and delivering the cultural values, programs and practices that affect 12,000 people within the Intrawest organization across North America." Specifically, Rabbani was praised for her oversight of the "cultural merger" of Blackcomb and Whistler mountains which involved creating one team out of two organizations which had previously been rivals. There were also merit points for the development of the management training program called The Mountain Institute, which strives to enable managers of newly-acquired properties to quickly understand and embrace Intrawest’s values and vision. Among a number of other achievements Rabbani is also credited with establishing an employee satisfaction measurement system. This has enabled Intrawest to go one step further than most and actually compare levels of employee satisfaction with guest satisfaction and then overall financial performance. Hugh Smythe, Intrawest’s president of Resort Operations, says the accolade proves the company is on the right track. "This award further confirms our sincere belief that Diane is one of the top human resource professionals in both Canadian commerce and the North American resort business."
