Agreement lowers gas rates Centra Gas rates will decline slightly in 1995/96 and should be more stable in the future after a negotiated settlement was hammered out last week. In December Centra applied for rate increases of 3.05 per cent in 1995 and 4.37 per cent in 1996, as well as combining the Whistler and Port Alice operations for purposes of setting rates. If approved the latest application would have had the cumulative effect of increasing propane rates by more than 40 per cent since 1993. A 15.3 per cent increase in 1993 was used to cover the cost of relocating the propane tank farm. An 8.4 per cent increase was approved last October. Four locals — Tim Wake, representatives of the Chateau Whistler Resort and Delta Whistler Resort and Drew Stotesbury, director of finance for the municipality — challenged the proposed increase. The negotiated agreement severs Port Alice from the Whistler rate and will also see Centra strive for rate stability in the years ahead.
