Practice makes burgers About the only thing better than having a barbecue with the Vancouver Canucks when they visit Whistler in two weeks would be to skate with them. Whistler Mountain is making it so. A contest for boys and girls 14 years of age and under will be held this week to decide which lucky 20 will train with the team in a 30-minute on-ice hockey clinic. To enter, simply drop off a ballot with a name, address, phone number and age at the Meadow Park Sports Arena by Sept. 7. Then wait for the phone call on Sept. 8. For those who wish to settle for the barbecue, or can't enter the contest, the Canucks "Breaking Camp" barbecue is taking place on top of Whistler Mountain on Thursday Sept. 14, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. A sports auction of Canucks memorabilia and clothing will be held as part of the fun, which includes door prizes, entertainment and more. Funds raised will support minor hockey. Tickets are available at Guest Relations and through the Whistler Minor Hockey Association for $35, including lift, barbecue and beverages.
