Intrawest goes Snowshoeing Intrawest, parent company of Blackcomb, continued its expansion into the mountain resort business with the announcement this week it has an agreement with Tokyo Tower Development Corp. to purchase Snowshoe Mountain Resort in West Virginia. Snowshoe, with the adjacent Silver Creek Mountain Resort, is the largest ski resort in the Mid-Atlantic and South-eastern regions of the United States. Intrawest expects it will become the company's second largest contributor to resort operation cash flow, after Blackcomb. In the last five years Snowshoe has doubled its revenues and increased skier visits from 280,000 to 400,000 annually. The mountain has a 1,500 foot vertical drop, with the summit being 4,800 feet, making it one of the highest ski mountains in Eastern North America. The mountain has one double chair, eight triple chairs and two quads. The resort also owns an operates an 18-hole championship golf course, named one of the top 10 new courses in the United States by Golf magazine in 1993. In addition to Blackcomb and Snowshoe, Intrawest also owns Mont Tremblant in Quebec, Stratton Mountain in Vermont, Panorama near Invermere, B.C. and is developing real estate at Keystone, Colo. Intrawest also operates its own resort clubs at Blackcomb and Tremblant.
