Whistler’s second annual Town Hall Meeting will be Sunday, Nov. 12 from noon to 6 p.m. at Myrtle Philip Community Centre. There is a $5 charge for copies of the report New digs The Whistler Fire Department, Bylaws Department and RCMP move into their new quarters next week. The new building, actually an addition to the existing fire hall, includes phone lines and wiring that will allow the building to be used as a command centre in the event of an emergency or disaster, such as the 1990 Labour Day floods. Haunted houses The Parks and Recreation Department is hosting its third annual Halloween Haunted House on Sunday, Oct. 29. Ghosts, goblins and ghouls will haunt Meadow Park Arena from 1 to 4 p.m. A prize will be awarded for the best costume. Regular admission rates apply. Meanwhile, the Westbrook Whistler is hosting an Open Haunted House from 6 to 9 p.m. on Halloween. Parents and kids can drop by the lobby, where the kids will be escorted to the haunted suite. The little Frankenstein that gets the specially marked treat will win a special night stay for two. Parents can have a coffee while they wait. Made In Whistler, the gallery of local art, is having a pumpkin carving contest. For a $3 entry fee previously-carved pumpkins can be brought in for a photo. All pictures will be displayed until Halloween. Also, on Oct. 29 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. previously-gutted pumpkins can be carved on site. Prize money will be awarded in two categories, family and artist. Call 938-0825 for more information. Whistler Community Services has relocated its administrative office to Myrtle Philip Community Centre. The move adds the third component to Whistler’s community school. Myrtle Philip provides educational and recreational services and through partnership with Whistler Community Services will now be able to provide social services to the school and community. The move will enable WCS to extend its hours and expand its programs to more fully address the community’s and school’s needs.
