Council made a number of appointments to commissions and panels this week, including naming the new Public Arts Planning Group. Nine people, from the 15 applicants, were chosen for the panel, which will advise on the municipality’s Art in Public Places program. The five members appointed to two-year terms are: Paula Campbell, an arts professional and owner of the adele-campbell gallery; Brigitte Loranger, an urban designer; local artist Isobel MacLaurin; artist Patrick Meagher; and Randy Romanin, a member of the development community. The four members appointed to one-year terms are: artist Jola Muran; Stephanie Sloan, citizen-at-large; Marianne Wade, an urban designer; and Maureen Wale, an arts professional. All nine members of last year’s Advisory Parks and Recreation Commission were re-appointed for another year. The nine are Alex Bunbury, Joanne Den Duyf, Jinny Ladner, Lorne McFadgen, Jas Michalski, Heather Rondeau, Bruce Watt, Eric Wight and Ele Clarke. Two new members were appointed to the Advisory Planning Commission. James Tuer, a landscape architect with Ecosign, and Owen Owens, a retired geological engineer, were chosen from the seven applicants. The Advisory Planning Commission is made up of nine members. Seven members from last year’s commission — Paul Burrows, Dave Dalby, Michael d’Artois, Ed Hauschka, Ian Reith, Nick Slater and Bonnie Munster — were re-appointed. Steve Bayly and Alex Kleinman had served three consecutive terms and were not eligible for re-appointment. All eight voting members of the Advisory Design Panel were re-appointed for another year. The panel is comprised of three members of the Architectural Institute of B.C., two representatives of the B.C. Society of Landscape Architects, one member of the Urban Development Institute, one member with professional expertise in the hospitality industry, and one member of the community at large. The members are: Peter Lang, MAIBC and chair; Steven Sewell, MAIBC; Alex Rebanks, MAIBC; Bruce Hemstock, BCSLA; Brent Harley, BCSLA; Doug O’Mara, UDI; Scott Johnson, hospitality; and Andy Munster, community.
