Negotiations between management of the Fairways Hotel and the Canadian Auto Workers , representing staff at the hotel, ended Wednesday without settlement. Employees held a strike vote Thursday, after Pique went to press. The two sides had met with a mediator for three days but failed to reach an agreement. The third annual Fathers-Daughters Dance will be held April 4 at PIka's on Whistler Mountain. Billed as the Pre-Puberty Party of the Year, this year's dance will outdo even last year's, says organizer Alan Lande. Prizes include trips, golf packages, snowmobile tours, restaurant certificates and much more. Tickets for the party are available through Myrtle Philip School, or by calling Lande at 932-1966 or Heather Rondeau at 932-6276. Tickets are $23 for a dad and one daughter, and $8 for each additional daughter. The ticket price includes dinner, dancing and one prize balloon. Tickets must be purchased in advance. Lande suggests dads book early to avoid disappointment. Uploading on Whistler's Express gondola begins at 4:30 p.m. April 4. The party ends at 9 p.m. Proceeds from A Climbing Life, a slide show by Canadian alpinist Barry Blanchard at the Chateau Whistler March 22, will benefit the family of Trevor Petersen. Blanchard has climbed in all the world's major mountain ranges and done first ascents of a number of peaks. His slide show will feature first ascents of the north face of Mount Alberta, the north ridge of Rakaposhi, the south face of K2 and the Rupal Face of Nanga Parbat. Tickets are $4 in advance and available from the Escape Route. Show time is 8 p.m. Petersen was a Whistler skier, climber and outdoor adventurer. He died Feb. 26 in an avalanche in Chamonix, France.
