Howe Sound School District Chair Don Wilson didn’t make it to Victoria to meet with Education Ministry staff Tuesday.

Howe Sound School District Chair Don Wilson didn’t make it to Victoria to meet with Education Ministry staff Tuesday. Wilson said last week he would be going to Victoria to see what funds were available for equipment for Whistler Secondary, which was built for 200 students but has more than 300. Wilson was unavailable for comment at press time. The trip to Victoria was proposed, at least in part, as a response to allegations that the school district did not apply in time for all the equipment funds it was entitled to for Whistler Secondary. District Superintendent Doug Courtice said earlier he didn’t believe there was any error on the part of the school district, but he ordered an investigation of the matter. Wilson said last week that the investigation would determine what, if any, errors were made. "By Tuesday (Sept. 10) the administration will know what we applied for," Wilson said. A report on the whole matter was to be brought to the school district’s regular meeting Wednesday. The meeting ended after Pique went to press. On another matter, the school board decided this summer to eliminate all crossing guards in the district to save money. Many parents have strongly opposed the move and the crossing guard issue was expected to come up at Wednesday’s board meeting. Wilson suggested earlier that if the crossing guards are reinstated the board will likely have to take the money from elsewhere in its budget.
