In 1986, the doors to a corner room in the basement of municipal hall first opened to the Whistler Public Library. It was difficult to find but soon became known to most of the community. In 1994 the library moved to its present, temporary location on Main Street in Village North and each year since has experienced a 50 per cent growth in use. Next week, Sept. 29, the library marks its 10th birthday in a joint celebration with Whistler Museum and Archives Society. From 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29 there will be a variety of community events, including a puppeteer, face painting, balloons, clowns, jugglers and a gigantic birthday cake. Inside the library Alison Hunter will be playing harp music. The festivities include contests for kids and a quiz for adults (pick up an entry form before Sept. 29 and answer the 10 research/skill testing questions). Winners will receive gift certificates or a special lunch date with the fire department, depending on which contest they entered. As well, prominent local citizens will each list their 10 favourite books.
