Capilano-Howe Sound MP Herb Grubel will not seek re-election in the federal election expected next year. Grubel, Reform Party finance critic, said in a release "concerns about my health, family and professional life underlie this decision. I look forward to resuming my teaching and research as an economist. Employment opportunities await me at both Simon Fraser University and the Fraser Institute." Grubel taught economics at SFU before being elected in 1993. While there has been some dissension within the Reform Party this year, Grubel added that "Canada needs a fiscally responsible, more decentralized and smaller government to solve its employment, crime and unity problems. Only Reform offers such a vision. I was privileged to have been associated intimately with this party."
