Logger sports carves World Cup niche The roar of the chainsaw and the "thunk" of the double-bitted axe will entertain World Cup visitors today and Saturday in Logger Sports team competition. Two-man teams challenge each other and the time clock. Today's show is at 3:30 p.m. in Village Square. On Saturday, the show shifts to the Mountain Square and begins at 3 p.m. Another show is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Dusty’s in Creekside. Events include a chainsaw race to carve a chair from a standing block of wood, and throwing a double-bitted axe 20 feet to a target for points. Crowd participation is encouraged to divide into cheering squads for one team or the other. Individuals will be invited to help the loggers in some of the sawing events. One race sure to tingle some spines is called the obstacle pole race. Loggers run up a 14"-diameter angled pole carrying a chainsaw. At the top, they cut off the end of the log and run back down. First to touch ground wins.
