Ron Hosner is the new president of the Whistler Chamber of Commerce. Hosner, owner of Hoz’s Pub and Cafe in Whistler Creek, was elected at the chamber’s annual meeting on Dec. 18. He has served as vice-president of the chamber for the past two years and as a director since 1993. Hosner has chaired the committee responsible for the Employee Recognition Dinner the last two years and has been part of the executive committee. Outgoing president Rick Clare will remain on the executive of the chamber as past president. Bob Adams, who chaired the Whistler Spirit Committee and has been a director since 1993, was elected chamber vice president. Adams and his wife Sue are partners in the Grocery Store, Upper Village Market and Market Catering. Mountain Community Health Alternatives is looking for volunteer for Whistler’s First Night. Volunteer ticket sellers are needed for the festivities, which get underway at 6 p.m. Dec. 31. In return for selling tickets volunteers get a free pass to First Night. Call 938-3181 for details. Organizers of the Owens Corning World Freestyle event at Blackcomb are looking for volunteers, too. Volunteers are needed between Jan. 9 and 19. A minimum commitment of three days is needed, but they do not have to be consecutive days. A volunteer package is available. Volunteer information sessions will be held Blackcomb’s Kids Kamp Sunday, Dec. 29 and Sunday, Jan. 5 at 7 p.m. for anyone interested in helping out. Coast Mountain Veterinary Services, in co-operation with AVID Canada, have provided municipal bylaw officers with a microchip scanner for the identification of lost pets. The $500 scanner can be used to identify lost pets that have had a microchip implanted in them. The microchip is easily implanted without the use of anesthesia. The chip is linked to a North America-wide data base that has a 24-hour toll free number that can provide the name, address and telephone number of the pet’s owner.
