Excellent results in Whistler World Cup ‘changed the landscape’

Although Jan. 13 is still a long way off – we still have the holidays to get through – that date is definitely looming on the horizon for members of the Canadian National Snowboard Team. That’s the day that Canadian Snowboard Federation president Adam Faithfull will release the final Olympic roster.

Only one thing is for certain – the selection process is going to go down to the wire.

"I am totally impressed by the results of the Canadian Halfpipe Athletes," says Faithfull. "Not only sweeping the top three positions in the men’s halfpipe on (Dec. 16) – Daniel Migneault first, Guillaume Morisset second and Mike Michalchuk third – but Dominiuqe Vallee also had her best ever finish in halfpipe placing third."

In the halfpipe on Dec. 14, Morisset was third and Natasza Zurek was second for Canada.

In the parallel giant slalom on the Dec. 10, Jasey Jay Anderson won the silver, while Jerome Sylvestre had his best finish in a PGS World Cup with a 14 th – he now only needs one more top 16 to be in contention for a spot on the Games team.

"The results certainly have changed the landscape of who will be going to the Games for halfpipe," says Faithfull. "Daniel Migneault and David Melancon qualified for the chance to go there with strong finishes this past week."

There are three remaining position in the men’s halfpipe – Brett Carpentier has already been named to the team – that could go to Guillaume Morisset, Mike Michalchuk, Trevor Andrew, Migneault or Melancon.

The Canadian women have yet to qualify for the two available parallel giant slalom spots.
