Jaca, in Spain, has joined Vancouver in bidding for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

Jaca, in Spain, has joined Vancouver in bidding for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

"Well, we knew there was going to be a bid from Spain, so we welcome them to the race," said Sam Corea, of the 2010 Vancouver Whistler Olympic Bid Corporation.

Granada was the favourite candidate for Spain. But Jaca was chosen by 156 votes to 81 over Granada by the Commission of Evaluation.

Andorra, on the French-Spanish border, Bern, Switzerland, Kangwon Province, Korea, and Salzburg, Austria are also bidding for the 2010 Winter Games.

Harbin, China is also rumoured to be bidding for the 2010 Games, although Beijing, China will be hosting the 2008 Summer Games. Most prognosticators think it unlikely the IOC would award back-to-back Olympics to the same country.
