The fourth annual Pro Photographer Search held during Whistler’s TELUS World Ski & Snowboard Festival, has announced its call for entries. Already published, or yet-to-be-discovered photographers from around the world are invited to enter the Search for a chance to gain valuable exposure within the action sport industry. The deadline for entries is March 1.
In the tradition of providing innovative events at WSSF, this year’s multimedia events of EXPOSURE – the Pro Photographer Search, Pro Photographer Showdown and an all new Filmmaker Showdown – are setting new standards in the international photography and film arenas. Taking place during WSSF between April 15 and 18, 2002, the events will deliver an action sport multimedia showcase like no other.
The attention focused on the EXPOSURE events is at an all time high since Blake Jorgenson, Best of Show at last year’s Pro Photographer Search, went on to stun audiences and judges and take top honours among industry legends at the Pro Photographer Showdown. This was the first time the winner of the Search had also taken Best of Show at the Showdown. The buzz in the industry has also created the perfect mood to introduce the inaugural Filmmaker Showdown, which will be fully launched to the industry in a few weeks.
"It’s exciting to see the growth of the EXPOSURE events and to see so many other photo and film events spring up in the industry. It’s truly a celebration of the energy and passion these artists commit to their work," says Catherine Yates, Multimedia Events Producer. "We recently held a series of think tanks inviting photographers and filmmakers to provide us with feedback to ensure that the EXPOSURE events continue to attract top talent and are relevant to the industry. I predict another fantastic year for EXPOSURE ."
The Pro Photographer Search is open to all action sport photographers whether they are well published or as yet, undiscovered. Entries for last year’s Search were received from as far away as Brazil, Belgium and Japan, some from experienced veterans and others from budding amateurs. Six photographers are chosen to present a 12-minute slide show during WSSF in Whistler.
Through a dynamic marriage of vivid imagery and creative musical selection, photographers are given the opportunity to weave an inspiring story featuring a collection of their own experiences. An expert panel of judges choose one Best of Show who takes the final seat alongside the world’s best at the invitational Pro Photographer Showdown later during the week.
All interested photographers are asked to submit a page of 20 duplicated images of their work to the Festival office by March 1, 2002 at 5 p.m. Six finalists will be chosen to present in Whistler during WSSF on April 15 and 16, 2002. Finalists will be notified on March 12, 2002.
