Sawtooth Films brings new festival to WSSF

What: Adrenaline Film Festival

Where: Whistler Conference Centre

When: April 14, 7:30 p.m.

Adrenaline junkies take note: another film fest hits town this month.

Mike Todd, owner of Sawtooth Films, the event production company specializing in film tours, brings eight films that display athletes climbing, skiing, and catchin’ a wave.

"Audiences live vicariously through these film tours, especially in city dates, where working professionals perhaps can’t get out and do this stuff," he says.

The travelling festival began in Sun Valley, Idaho, in 2000, a three-day event which Todd took on tour featuring the "best of" segment.

In 2001, Todd’s tour hit 100 American city dates, and this year his lineup is passing though mid-adventure for Whistler audiences.

"We found all the films really through a grass roots search, and through word of mouth," says Todd.

The lineup is extensive.

1 st B.A.S.E., from Moving Adventures, is a short documentary of base jumpers, with talking head interviews.

Eric Link’s Still Twitchin’ features the adventures of white water kayakers Tao Berman and others in regions like southeast Asia as well as British Columbia. Link’s Twitch IV recently made its debut with the Whistler Kayak Club a few weeks ago.

Beyond Gravity from Black and White Productions is a climber’s fantasy. Greg Chid narrates, as Lynn Hill and others make their ascents.

Boat Trip, from Matchstick Productions, explores free-skiing in coastal mountains by the likes of Dean Cummings and Shane McConkey. They do their exploring with an A-Star helicopter launched off a 110-foot yacht.

Gandwana, from Teton Gravity Research, is a 10 minute pro surfer escapade featuring Pancho Sullivan and others doing the Hawaii Five-0 in Tahiti, Hawaii, and the deep South Pacific.

Feeling off balance? Catch Unizaba’s repeat appearance, as Kris Holm is followed on a unicycle over hill, over dale, and, well, almost over cliff. The camera crew of FreeRide Entertainment help you catch your breath in this short film.

Liz Arlan and Faster! are the two final films rounding out the lineup.

Grab an espresso and head for rush heaven.
