Robin Nash, drummer for The Schematics, described the band’s music to one reviewer, saying it’s "like sticking a bunch of fruit into a blender, putting in the protein powder and then blending, and if you want to add a touch of sarsaparilla that’s ok too."
The Edmonton-based band is hugely influenced by reggae godfather Bob Marley, and punk music of all types.
They have been called "the Beatles meets NOFX," which gives you a sense of which long and winding road the music might lead you to.
Always creative, the band that once opened for Big Sugar, now plays alongside them as part of the music lineup during the Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival.
The showcase adds exposure to their debut CD, Realtime, released at the Rev Cabaret last November.
Since recording the album, the band expanded to a four-piece that includes vocalist Dylan Jay, Evan Jay on guitar, and Tony Merle on bass.
With sound engineer Mike Fraser (AC/DC, Aerosmith) at the helm for the record, the band’s sound was picked up by promoters of the Stage 13 Festival at Camrose, Alberta, where they opened for Vancouver’s 54-40.
Local legend Barry Allen, of Homestead Studios, assisted with Realtime , which also features the trumpet of guest musician Johnny McCuaig. The finished album was completed at Bryan Adams’ studio in Vancouver, The Warehouse.
