Re-use-it Centre expands programs

As the Re-Use-It-Centre enters its third year in business, plans are underway for a new program called the Community Exchange Program.

A display case/board, outside the centre's front door, will post free and for sale larger items. The information cards are posted for 10 days for free but the centre asks for a donation of the proceeds of the sale items.

This new service will help fulfil the Re-Use-It-Centre's mandate to keep the larger items out of the landfill in addition to helping locals move their larger furniture items that are too big to bring to the centre.

The centre is open every day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. but will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 18-19 for their annual clean and paint. It will open again at noon on Thursday, June 20.

The centre is always looking for non-profit groups to take their excess donations and can always use help transporting donations or in the centre itself.

Yours, mine and ours

Tourism Whistler has a brand new official Web site, called www.mywhistler.com. Its creators are calling it the ultimate online vacation planner.

The site was developed by Tourism Whistler to provide online vacation shoppers with detailed information, photos of the area and price points on a range of services.

It replaces and updates the old site www.tourismwhistler.com.

Web surfers can find out about snow conditions, or book their tee times at the Whistler Golf Club or learn about upcoming events and festivals in the village.

Part of the launch campaign includes a contest for a dream vacation to Whistler with five night's accommodation and a choice of up to $1,500 worth of Whistler adventures for two.

Tourism Whistler has also developed a Japanese language Web site at www.whistler.jp and another site devoted entirely to golf in Whistler at www.whistlergolf.com.

There are other Web sites currently in the works for German and Spanish-speaking users.

Donate to the museum

In addition to looking for funds at its upcoming fundraiser/silent auction, the Whistler Museum & Archives is also looking for more historical donations.

Any photos, film or other materials, which capture the evolution of Whistler, are in high demand right now.

Contact Curator and Archivist Pat Gemmill. He can be reached at gemmill@whistlermuseum.org or 604-932-2019 or drop by the museum on Main Street next to the Library.

The museum fund-raiser will take place at the Dubh Linn Gate on Thursday, June 20 at 6:30 p.m.

Detroit opens in Whistler

A Vancouver-based creative design firm has opened up a branch office in Whistler to be closer to one of its biggest clients, Whistler-Blackcomb.

Detroit Creative Group opened a five-person office in Function Junction this week.

Three staff members were recruited from the Whistler-Blackcomb marketing department and the other two members of staff were hired from the local community.

Whistler-Blackcomb will now be sourcing out all of its collateral and design work to Detroit Creative.

The B.C. company is seven years old and specializes in strategic communications and creative design. It is the graphic design arm of its sister company Wasserman & Partners Advertising.
